Future Trends In Influenza Treatment

The use of proper vaccine is crucial for the prevention and treatment of Influenza. Nowadays, Tamiflu is the most popular aid for reducing the impact and spread of influenza virus. In the near future, it is expected that new and innovative vaccines will be introduced for avoiding the disease.

  • Live-virus vaccines – Currently under development, such vaccines can be taken through nasal spray and enhance the immunity of your body. This is also cheaper and easier to administer than the intramuscular options. For children, overall protection includes reduction in secondary bacteria infections.
  • Genetically engineered vaccines – New vaccines are being created with site-specific changes in the genomes of negative-strand RNA viruses.
  • Stability vaccines – To prevent infection of cells with plasmids, potential influenza patients can be given live influenza virus vaccine. This deletes and alters genomes of influenza virus for greater stability.
  • Replication-defective influenza virus – Scientists are trying to develop virus particles that can only replicate once. This allows a response from antibodies and cell-mediated immune stimulation without replication of harmful virus.
  • DNA vaccines – Promising results have been indicated by studies related to plasmid DNA encoding influenza virus proteins. Further research may generate protective responses to influenza and lead to creation of effective vaccines.
  • Innovative approaches – At present, influenza vaccines are provided in the form of intramuscular injection. It is expected that liposome-like preparations will improve the immunogenicity of patients. While this technique has worked wonders in case of mice, it is still uncertain whether humans are suitable for such medication.
  • Universal vaccines – With rapidly increasing cases of influenza virus infection, greater emphasis is being laid on developing new vaccines every year. While different virus components need to be handled differently, a universal vaccine can prove to be effective in most cases.

Though currently TamiFlu is the most effective medicine for Flu virus infections, but vaccines are believed to be the sure shot answer to Flu infections like Avian Flu and Swine Flu.
